Stampede handles partial shade without fuss

Hi from Grech’s Turf Supplies – Neale Tweedie here!

I’m thrilled to have a chat with you about something pretty special growing on our farm. We’ve been working on a brand-new Buffalo turf variety called Stampede, proudly developed by the researchers at Lawn Solutions Australia (LSA).

This turf isn’t set for a full launch until 2026, but here at Grech’s Turf Supplies we couldn’t resist letting you know how well it performs. As soon as we laid our hands on those first runners, we knew we were onto something special.

Why Stampede is Turning Heads

I’ve seen my fair share of turf in my time. From the moment I saw Stampede’s lush green blades spreading across our fields, there was a real sense that something new and fantastic is about to hit the market.

Here are a few reasons why I’m so excited:

  • Tough as Nails: If the trials are anything to go by, Stampede thrives in everyday Aussie conditions.  Whether you’ve got footy mad kids or a lawn that gets walked on daily, this variety should bounce back in no time.
  • Shade Friendly: Like other top Buffalo varieties, Stampede handles partial shade without fuss. So, if your yard’s got a few big gum trees or a pergola casting shadows, that’s no drama at all.
  • Great Colour & Texture: Early Signs show a deep green colour that’s easy on the eyes, with a soft leaf that’ll have you wanting to walk around barefoot.

In short, it’s shaping up to be the sort of lawn you’d be proud to show off – tidy, comfortable and low fuss.

A Peek at the Propagation

We’ve already got Stampede in the ground here at Grech’s Turf Supplies.  The runners are shooting nicely, taking root well. And filling in the gaps very quickly which is a great indication of how this new buffalo will self-repair after being damaged.

It’s always a treat to witness a new variety find its footing – and if you have a look at the photos we’ve shared, you’ll see what I’m talking about. Just have a look at these strong healthy stolons which have grown nearly 30cm in less than a month.

This second photo shows how much the Stampede has filled in the gaps after only two months since it was planted with not much fertilizer and no mowing.
